Spring Break I.R.

For spring break I read Baseball Great by Tim Green.

This book is about Josh a very talented baseball player who has potential to be a professional one day. He plays for his school team and is expected to bring the team number one. When unexpectedly his dad puts him on a youth championship team, The Titans. The novel tells the story of how Josh tries to fit in with the older boys who turn violent, and bully him. It adds a twist when Josh starts to ask questions and uncovers some dirty truths inside the organization. When these people find out he knows Josh finds himself in a dangerous position, with a man who doesn’t want to be exposed.

Holiday I.R Blog

I read over holiday break Speak by Laurie Anderson. It’s about a girl who attends a party at the end of summer, and unfortunately is raped by a popular senior boy. She calls the police upset and confused when they get to the party she can’t tell them what happened. When the kids find out she was the one who called the police her friends leave her behind when they enter high school. No one knows she was raped, and she can’t build the courage to speak let alone tell about being raped. She expresses herself through art, and you follow her journey through 9th grade.

Thanksgiving I.R. Blog

I read The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas published February 2017.  The book follows the events of a 16 year old girl named Starr Jackson. She lives in one of the most poor neighborhoods, but goes to a rich private school, and has to balance her two lives. This has been one of the best books I’ve read in a really long time. Mostly because it talks a lot about police brutality and that’s something that is a current issue. For me personally, being white, it was extremely eye opening and easier for me to understand when it was through the eyes of someone black. Understanding things that you personally don’t go through is extremely hard to comprehend, but this author does an amazing job with really breaking it down. Lastly, the way the book plays with emotions makes it so intriguing. The book goes from a really happy moment like when she see’s her old friend again then too an extremely sad part.(When they get pulled over) this keeps you always alert. Overall the book was great for informational value and also has a good story line.
